Neighborhood guide
Point Loma
Cliffs, tide pools and the best free sunsets in the city.
Point Loma is the long finger of land that guards San Diego Bay. One side has Sunset Cliffs, where half the city shows up at golden hour. The tip has Cabrillo National Monument, with tide pools, an old lighthouse and whale views in winter.
Good for: Sunset chasers, tide-pool nerds and people who own a good jacket.
Skip it if: You’re carless. It’s spread out, and buses here take the scenic route.
Getting there: A car is easiest. Ocean Beach next door is a great base for taco breaks.
