Neighborhood guide
La Jolla
Sea lions, sea caves and the fanciest ice cream line you’ll ever stand in.
La Jolla is San Diego’s fancy seaside village: clifftop walks, barking sea lions at the Cove, kayak tours to the sea caves and boutiques where even the price tags have an ocean view.
Good for: Couples, snorkelers and anyone who likes a view with their brunch.
Skip it if: You hate crowds. Summer weekends at the Cove are a contact sport.
Getting there: Drive or rideshare, and come early. Parking near the Cove fills fast, and the sea lions don’t validate.
