Neighborhood guide
Coronado
Sparkly sand, a fairytale hotel and a ferry ride from downtown.
Coronado is the calm, pretty town across the bay, where the beach is wide, the sand sparkles and the Hotel del Coronado looks like a giant red-roofed wedding cake. It’s flat, so bikes are the best way around, and it’s very quiet at night.
Good for: Families, couples and people who want to read a book on a beach without anyone yelling.
Skip it if: You want nightlife. Coronado goes to bed early.
Getting there: Take the ferry from downtown (about 15 minutes) or drive over the Coronado Bridge.
