Ocean Beach Wednesday Farmers Market

Every Wednesday evening, Newport Avenue shuts to cars and fills with food stalls, fruit, crafts and street performers. OB at its most OB.

The honest take

Every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., the 4900 block of Newport Avenue closes to cars and turns into a street party that happens to sell vegetables. There’s fresh fruit, prepared food, crafts and jewelry, and a crowd that ranges from surfers to grandmas to someone playing a didgeridoo.

Come hungry and graze your way down the block. Then walk to the end of Newport and watch the sunset from the sand, because the beach is right there.

It’s a real local market, not a tourist show, which is exactly why it’s fun. Bring cash just in case, and expect parking to be tight.

Worth it? Skip it?

Worth it if

You’re in town on a Wednesday and want dinner, people-watching and a sunset in one go.

Skip it if

It’s not Wednesday. Sadly, this one is non-negotiable.
